MANTA GLASSHOUSE – Distillery and client entertainment area of Bombay Sapphire in Laverstoke.

Two glasshouses have been designed by Heatherwick studio for the new distillery and visitors centre of Bombay Sapphire in Laverstoke. The Glass houses structures are freestanding and are sitting in the water.

The large glass structure will accommodate a Mediterranean greenhouse. It has approximately 9 m diameter and is 15 m tall above its foundation. The smaller glass structure will accommodate a tropical greenhouse and it has a diameter of approximately 9 m and a maximum height of 11 m above its foundation.

The glass surface of each house is a extruded circular pleated form. From the base it extends vertically upwards, the bends and narrows towards the adjacent building. As it narrows the circular pleated from transforms into a rectangular shape. The original freeform glass geometry was approximated with a series of cylindrical panels. The majority of the glass surface features a structural glass assembly, the glass panels are connected to longitude stainless steel rails along the fold lines by a series of local connectors.
